A B C's of Big Book of A.A., Page 60

Our description of the alcoholic,
the chapter to the agnostic,
and our personal adventures before and after
make clear three pertinent ideas:

(a) That we were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives.

(b) That probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism.

(c) That God could and would if He were sought.

Happiness

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we
get married, have a baby, then another.

Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough
and we'll be more content when they are.

After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.

We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.

We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together,  when we get a nicer car, are we able
to go on a nice vacation, or when we retire.

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now.
If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges.

It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.

Happiness is the way.

So, treasure every moment that you have
and treasure it more

because you shared it with someone special,
special enough to spend your time with
...and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting....

--until your car or home is paid off

--until you get a new car or home

--until your kids leave the house

--until you go back to school

--until you finish school

--until you lose 10 lbs.

--until you gain 10 lbs.

--until you get married

--until you get a divorce

--until you have kids

--until you retire

--until summer

--until spring

--until winter

--until fall

--until you die

There is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

So-work like you don't need money, Love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one's watching.

If You are Not Happy Today, Then What Day are You Waiting ON?????

Happiness is not a matter of events; it depends upon the tides of the mind.
--Alice Meyvell

It's thought that Abe Lincoln once said, "We're as happy as we make up our
minds to be." In other words, we decide to be happy. Bad weather, lost toys,
broken plans, even angry friends don't have to ruin our own happiness unless
we let them. We're always in control of our own thoughts and feelings, and
happiness is a feeling we can choose even when others around us have chosen
to be angry or sad. Even when the day is gloomy and none of our plans are
working out, we can still be cheerful if we decide to be. How lucky we are
that someone else can't decide for us how to feel. We'd be nothing more than
robots if that were true.

Am I ready to make this day a happy one?

Looked For Years

I looked for years, But could not see That all my mistakes
Were caused by me

I looked for years, But could not see
All the love that surrounded me

Traveled so many different ways, Trying to justify those evil days

I looked for years, But could not see
I was an alcoholic, Drowning in me
I used everything I could find I was way out of my mind

I looked for years, But could not see
Farther than my nose, I was near sighted
and God knows Self centered and Selfish As can be

Just another alcoholic, Who was not free
Chains bound my spirit, Back in those days
Held prisoner By Lust, Greed, Alcohol

Held tight, Did not know To get free
I had to let go

Looked for years, But could not see
My biggest problem was me, Altered reality kept me blind

I look for years but could not find, Any peace or serenity
Guilt and shame Was all I could see
Sick and tired Of Being sick and tired
I turned to the fellowship

The place where love abides No one there needs to hide

Honest
Open
Willing

I started to see

Opened my eyes To reality
No longer bound I was now free
I thank my God For helping me to see

Peace
Serenity
Humility

Now dwells Inside of me

Thanks to my Sponsor And God I can now see.

The ABC's of Alcohol

In an old book we find the following alphabetical list of the evils produced by alcoholic drinks : They

Allure from the paths of piety,
Banish domestic happiness,
Create unnatural thirst,
Derange the intellect,
Enlarge the borders of wickedness,
Fill the prisons,
Generate the vilest propensities,
Hinder the prospect of the blessed Gospel,
Inflame the passions,
Jump into pits of depression,
Kindle the flame of strife,
Laugh at sin,
Murder the soul,
Nerve the assassin's arm,
Oppress the poor and needy,
Poison the body,
Quench holy desires,
Rage with Satanic violence,
Scoff at true religion,
Trouble the Church of Christ,
Unnerve the philosophers,
Vitiate the blood,
Work discord in families,
Yield a harvest of woes,
Zealously affect evil things.
